Used vehicle exports rise 18th straight month, Sri Lanka climbs, Kenya, Pakistan slow
In April 2018, used vehicle exports from Japan totaled 125,641 units, up 7.8 percent from a year earlier. According to the Ministry of Finance's Trade statistics, the April 2018 figure marked year-on-year increase for eighteen consecutive months since November 2016.
Passenger car, truck and dump, bus, and electrified vehicles (electric vehicle, hybrid vehicle and plug-in hybrid vehicle) are included in the export statistics.
New Zealand maintained the top importer's position, which imported 12,590 vehicles, up 0.4 percent on the year. The government measures to eliminate the brown marmorated stink bugs (BMSBs) might be successfully performed. The shipment is expected to recover.
Exports to Myanmar still show yearly increase for the month. The April shipment to the country totaled 8,101 units, up 20.0 percent on the year.
Used vehicles bound for Sri Lanka jumped 159.1 percent on the year. Local dealers actively purchased vehicles to meet last-minute demand before the introduction of revised taxation system in July. Hybrid¬ minicars, which are hot-sellers in the market, are likely to fade out, and, instead, small hybrid cars are expected to undergo favorable tax breaks, according to the industry sources.
Exports to Russia increased 36.8 percent to 7,145 units. However, increased tax for automobile recycling in April, as well as raised cost of mandatory GLONASS device on a used import car might place negative impact on the indutry.
Sharp year on year increases were also found in exports to South Africa, Singapore, Afghanistan, and Surinam.
On the other hand, exports to Pakistan, Kenya and Bangladesh tumbled.
In January-April 2018, used vehicles exports totaled 4 2 8,69 'units, up 4.5 percent compared to the same period of the previous year.
Nissan Leaf dominates in used car market in Russia
In 2017, sales of used electric vehicles (EVs) in Russia increased 3.3-times the volume that sold in the previous year, said AUTOSTAT.
Nissan Leaf was the best-selling EV model in tha market with sales of 932 units, outselling Mitsubishi i-MiEV of 50 units.
