Used vehicle exports rise 15th straight month, Russia boosts, Pakistan fumbles
In January 2018, used vehicle exports from Japan totaled 78,980 units, up 4.5 percent from a year earlier. According to the Ministry of Finance's Trade statistics, it marked year-on-year increase for fifteen consecutive months since November 2016.
Passenger car, truck and dump, bus, and electrified vehicles (electric vehicle, hybrid vehicle and plug-in hybrid vehicle) are included in the export statistics.
United Arab Emirates (U.A.E.) became the biggest importer for the month, which imported 8,392 vehicles, down 23.3 percent from a year earlier.
Exported New Zealand (NZ), ranked second, declined 6.6 percent to 7,253 units. Exports to Myanmar dropped 10.9 percent to 7,215 units.
Exports to Sri Lanka and Russia climbed 69.1 percent and 117.1 percenrt, respectively.
Sharp yearly increases were also found in exported volume to Georgia, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Malawi, and Surinam.
In contrast, exports to Pakistan sharply dropped 65.3 percent on the year to 820 units.
Exports to Afghanistan, Singapore were weak as well.
Mauritius requires auction sheet certificate for used car import
In order to prevent from illegal used vehicles being imported to the domestic market, Mauritius authority decided to require local importers to submit auction sheet English version certificate before shipment from Japan.
With the certificate, importers are able to process the vehicle export from Japan. The auction sheet, which is originally described in Japanese language, should be translated into English and then certified by the authorized institution.
On the other hand, the government continues to adopt pre-shipment vehicle inspection (PSI) for each vehicle, which is operated by the competent authority.
Mauritius is a major destination of Japanese used vehicles with younger vehocle age. In 2017, used vehicle exports from Japan to Mauritius totaled 8,076 units.
