Used vehicle exports up 9.3% in 2017, Pakistan, Russia boost

In the whole year 2017, used vehicle exports from Japan totaled 1,297,708 units, up 9.3 percent from a year earlier. According to the Ministry of Finance's Trade statistics, it marked year-on-year increase for the first time in three years.
Passenger car, truck and dump, bus, and electrified vehicles (electric vehicle, hybrid vehicle and plug-in hybrid vehicle) are included in the export statistics.
United Arab Emirates (U.A.E.) became the biggest importer for the year, which imported 144,323 vehicles, down 4.3 percent from a year earlier.
Exported New Zealand (NZ), ranked second, increased 10.8 percent to 135,509 units. Exports to Myanmar dropped 19.2 percent to 10,322 units.
Exports to Pakistan climbed 51.5 percent to 86,306 units, while Russian-bound used vehicles rose 43.1 percent to 69,039 units.
Sharp yearly increases were found in exported volume to Sri Lanka, South Africa, Jamaica and Surinam.
On the other hand, used vehicles bound for Georgia tumbled 52.5 percent to 18,049 units. Exports to Singapore and Fiji also dropped 48.2 percent and 625 percent, respectively.
For December 2017 alone, exportsown 4.3 percent from a year earlier.

For December 2017 alone, exports of used vehicles were 119,003 units, up 7.5 percent from a year-ago result. It marked year-on-year increase for 14 consecutive months.
Notably, exported volume to Mozambique, Srinam and Malta more than doubled from a year earlier, respectively.
Customized car show attracts 319,000 visitors
The Tokyo Auto Salon 2018, Japan's largest customized car show, was held in January 12-14 at Makuhari Messe halls, located in Chiba Prefecture.
A total of 442 exhibitors from around the world showcased their products and developments to visitors. Exhibitors' booth total 4,348. The 3-day event attracted 319,000 consumers. Customized cars were categorized into concept car, dress-up car and tuned car. Vehicle types were grouped into sedan, minivan/wagon, SUV, K-car/compact car, and import car.
This year's show also features the customized car auctions for the first time.
